If you work with adults who are questioning whether they may be autistic, or who have long suspected they are neurodivergent but were overlooked or misdiagnosed earlier in life, I may be a helpful referral option for you to know about. My practice, The Adult Autism Specialist, is dedicated exclusively to providing comprehensive, neuroaffirming adult autism evaluations that are clinically rigorous, thoughtful, and respectful of lived experience. I provide autism evaluations for adults nationwide via secure telehealth. Many of the clients who come to me through clinicians are insightful, psychologically minded adults who have been engaged in therapy or psychiatric care for years and are now asking deeper identity-level questions such as, “Could autism explain my lifelong patterns, sensory sensitivities, burnout, or social differences?” My role is to evaluate these questions carefully and transparently, using current clinical understanding of autism across the lifespan.

My adult autism evaluation process is intentionally neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed. Rather than relying solely on deficit-based diagnostic checklists, I integrate developmental history, lived experience, masking and camouflaging, intersectional identity factors, and the cumulative impact of chronic misattunement. This approach is especially well suited for adults who are female, nonbinary, BIPOC, gifted, highly verbal, or otherwise complex in presentation, groups that are frequently under-identified or mischaracterized using traditional autism assessment models. Each evaluation is comprehensive and results in a detailed written autism diagnostic report. Clinicians often tell me these reports are genuinely useful for ongoing treatment planning. I clearly document diagnostic impressions, clinical rationale, and individualized recommendations that can be meaningfully integrated into psychotherapy, psychiatric treatment, academic accommodations, or workplace support.
I operate as an evaluation-only autism assessment practice and do not provide ongoing therapy to clients I assess. This structure allows you to remain the primary treating clinician without concerns about role overlap or continuity of care. Clients typically return to their providers with increased self-understanding, clearer language for their experiences, and formal diagnostic documentation that supports and deepens ongoing clinical work. I frequently hear that the evaluation process becomes a turning point in treatment, helping to reduce shame, clarify long-standing diagnostic questions, and open more compassionate and effective therapeutic pathways.
Your clients are welcome to self-refer for an autism evaluation. A formal referral, letter of medical necessity, or diagnostic pre-authorization from you is not required, though many clinicians choose to recommend an evaluation as part of treatment. I am transparent with clients about the scope and limits of the assessment process, and I obtain appropriate releases whenever collaboration or care coordination would be clinically useful.
All adult autism evaluations are conducted via telehealth, allowing me to work with clients in most U.S. states. The practice is private-pay, which is often important for adults seeking confidentiality, autonomy, or an assessment process not constrained by insurance-driven limitations. Scheduling and communication are handled primarily via secure email, which many clinicians and clients find accessible and efficient.
Adults who benefit most from my autism evaluation services are reflective, motivated to understand themselves more deeply, and seeking diagnostic clarity rather than quick answers. Many are professionals, graduate students, parents, or late-identified adults who have spent years compensating, masking, or adapting without an explanatory framework that genuinely fit their experiences. If you are unsure whether a particular client is an appropriate candidate for an adult autism assessment, I am happy to offer general guidance without stepping into a treatment role.
